Buildings at Metsamõisa Manor in the 19th Century

Where there is a manor, there is also a manor house, where there are kings, there are also villages - these were the settlement patterns of Estonian historical rural population. The centuries have brought about the existence of manor and farm architecture, which has left behind numerous locations where entire cultural landscapes have been preserved.

In the 19th century, the first central buildings of Metsamõisa manor were built, but in the early periods, the buildings were located in Võhmuta village. We know for certain that there was a manor center in Võhmuta village, where various buildings were erected, including a distillery, which was a very important source of income for the manor. When the early period ended, Metsamõisa manor and Järsi village became the center of residence, where the manor's main buildings were located. The assembly consisted of the main building, which was the population's largest dwelling, where the manor's administrative functions were carried out. In addition, there was the main building of Metsamõisa, which was used for various purposes related to the manor's economic activities.

New Metsamõisa manor buildings were built in the first half of the 19th century by Karl Mühlhausen. The manor buildings were constructed according to the architectural traditions of the time, and the architectural style was influenced by the prevailing trends. The manor's main building was built in the classical style, which was characteristic of the period. The building's architecture reflected the social status and economic power of the manor owner.
